Item of the week - Stacking Inukshuk

With all of the Olympic hype there is no better time to be thankful we're Canadian. I am so greatful to be able to raise my daughters in such a wonderful, diverse country, with so many opportunities.

While we happily ship items south of the border, and have lots of love and appreciation for our American friends, Everything After The Stork is proudly a Canadian company and so happy to bring our customers the Stacking Inukshuk toy.

$24.95 for a fun toy for years to come! Or even just to use as an ornament. My husband wants to leave one on the fireplace mantle because really they're just as much a work of art as they are fun for your baby.

Inuksuit (plural of inukshuk) are among the oldest and most important objects placed by humans upon the vast Arctic landscape and have become a familiar symbol of the Inuit and their homeland. The word inukshuk means “in the likeness of a human” in the Inuit language. This little inukshuk is made entirely from locally sourced white ash. The dowel is created in shop and each stacking piece is sanded down to avoid any sharp corners. It is finished with certified organic hempseed oil. Recommended for children 12 months+

And Here We Go!

Since before I even had children, I've had a passion for baby and children's products. I remember reading Today's Parent at my Aunt's house when I was not even 12 years old.

When my first daughter was born, 8 years ago, that passion was unleashed. I loved to read blogs, search online and find the very best in baby products and clothing. Sadly, there wasn't nearly as much available then as there is now.

When my youngest daughter was born this past summer we knew she needed a soother, sucking gave her comfort. Actually, rewind to her first ultrasound at Babymoon, she was even sucking her thumb at 18 weeks gestation. However, she couldn't seem to keep her Avent pacifier in her mouth.

I thought back to the pacifier my middle daughter was given in the hospital, a Soothie. It was the perfect shape for a baby to latch on and because it was clear I could see if she was getting a good latch.

I went from store to store, unable to find a soothie. I looked online but could only find them coming from the U.S. at extremely high rates. Finally, a friend pointed out  a local store that carried them, so I packed up three kids in the van on a hot summer day and drove there.  I bought four, to the tune of over $30.00! (I have now learned you can buy these at Toys R Us, two for $5.00 and even saw them at Walmart last week!)

I was right, Kelsie loved the soothie, she was able to keep it in her mouth fairly easily and she was content.

Fast forward six weeks and we were getting ready to go on a road trip from Winnipeg to Edmonton. A scary thought with 3 children ages eight, five and a newborn! I had read about the Wubbanub and how it helped to hold the baby's soothie in their mouth because of the weight of the stuffed toy. I knew this was a must have for our road trip.

Again, I looked online and could only find them coming from the U.S. and I didn't have time to wait for customs, nor did I want to spend over $24.99 for express delivery.

I looked around in the city, they were sold out at two stores and the third was charging over $20.00 for them. I decided to skip it and try my luck. We left the next day. The trip went well, but that was only five hours to Regina, we still had a long way to go! So I went to a few stores in Regina and found the beloved Wubbanub at half the cost.  I bought it, and to make a long story short, the trip went well, we made it home in one piece and will even plan to do it again!

Now, a seed was planted in my head, I needed to create a place to sell popular baby products, like Wubbanubs, at an affordable rate. I needed something where parents in Winnipeg (and everywhere else!) could go during the 2:00am feed, in the middle of the February snow storm or without worrying about towing four children around, and find what they needed quickly, conveniently and from a source they could trust.

Over the past six months I've spent many hours finding the best way to do this - and finally my site has launched!! You will find everything you need (and even things you didn't know you needed!) at an affordable price, with quick shipping and/or delivery.

So here we are, One Stop Shop - For everything after the stork was born. We have a lot of new exciting things coming, so please visit us often and see what we're up to!
